On the evening of October 16, a protest was scheduled at New York University’s Gould Plaza because Henry Kissinger, former national security adviser and secretary of state during the Nixon and Ford administrations, was scheduled to speak at NYU’s Stern School of Business. Despite having received a Nobel Peace Prize, Kissinger is infamous for committing actions during his time of political power, such as helping Nixon prolong the Vietnam War, assisting a military coup against a democratically-elected government in Chile, serving as guidance for a bombing campaign in Cambodia, and for assisting the Indonesian invasion of East Timor, where more than a quarter of its population was murdered.
